All of the cold steel training weapons I have purchased have arrived in a timely manner, in good condition and seem to be of excellent quality. My wife and I are not in any kind of training, we just like to "play swords" so our routines tend to be pretty vigorous and we have never experienced any bending or warping.

This is a great blade, and pretty sharp. The blade in the picture is darker than the one you get, and I think that is to show off the hamon. Still, it is very sturdy and well made.

Very nice katana. Especially for the price. For 100 dollars you cannot beat this sword. I'm not a self proclaimed master swordsman like most of the people who write these reviews, and I'm not gonna pretend like I am. That being said I don't know for sure how katanas are graded traditionally so I'm giving this one 5 stars based on how it appeals to me. Aesthetically appealing across the board. Real hamon, everything was just as advertised. It came nice and sharp, although I plan on honing it more. I cut a few tree branches with ease, and some others weren't so easy (which may have been my technique or lack thereof). I don't know if it's razor sharp or not or how to determine that, but it sliced a paper into ribbons a few times. I would buy this sword again, in fact I probably will. No blade wobble. Yes it's made in China, what isn't these days.

Great Katana sword at a great price! Very beautiful, pre-sharpened, just a work of art at this price! No doubt there are many better swords out there at hundreds, even thousands more, but for the price I could not be happier! Nicely balanced, solid, and sharp both in looks and to the touch. Product came extremely early, in fact, a week early than expected and came in beautifully. Of course, there was the oil the blade upon unsheathing. But just looking at the scabbard was amazing, the spread of the red paint on it, so pretty. Blade came in undamaged and they sold it advertised.

Double Sweet!!!!!! Beautiful red and black blade highlights the folding laminations, solid construction. Hay bales yield smoothly. Details nice. I got it for the symbolism of the green and fish, and the red blade details -- Archangel St Raphael, the Source of Divine Healing (Green and fish) and Archangel St Euriel, the Source of Divine Wisdom (Red). Later, I might ask Ryan to have matching Wakizashi and Tanto made for me. I'll bet that the Archangel Raphael, the Source of Divine Healing, uses the sword to metaphorically cut out illness.

I am a sword collector. Not the decorative type, I love the functional battle ready type. This sword is both in my eyes. It is well crafted with good balance would be good for a Zombie Apocalypse. Nice sword but quite sharp. My 19 year old son accidently sliced his leg for 9 stitches without even swinging the sword. Be careful and make sure you have medical insurance.

This Cold Steel Warrior Katana is better than expected. I have had the sword for two weeks now.The sword arrived with some dirt on it that wiped off easily. I agree with other reviewers that this katana is blade heavy making quick recovery during forms more than a bit difficult. The blade is sharp enough to catch on a thumb nail when scraping over the nail to check sharpness but not shaving sharp. The katana cuts completely through water bottles better than many of the videos depict on You Tube.

OK, so its not a real, folded steel samurai sword. Those cost thousands, and you get what you pay for, however, compare the price to an $85 Ka-bar, and you begin to see how reasonably priced this sword is. The quality and craftsmanship of this sword is easily comparable to any mid-range, mass-produced combat knife made by companies like Ka-bar or Ontario. You are paying for a sword that is handmade with modern materials and knifemaking techniques - high carbon steel with a clay-tempered "hamon" edge. No joke, the edge is sharp enough to shave with. I plan on purchasing the matching Katana, and I already purchased 2 Mushashi style (#670) tsuba to make the set truly no-frills.

Blade as far as I can tell is a good quality-more practical than fancy. The sheath fits well. not the best quality but it does the job. the hsndgusrd is pretty plain,and the only thing that bothered me is the pommel feels like plastic although it is quite well attached.

I don't know a lot about swords, but I did a lot of research before buying it because it was a gift. Prompt delivery, gorgeous blade, very sharp. For anyone looking for an authentic cutting sword, this is a great choice. This is the more refined version of the Hanwei Practical Katana Sword. I did some research and this rated well in many sword enthsiast forums. It comes with a tag from Hanwei that provides a serial number to document that this is a Hanwei sword. The workmanship is so beautiful for a sword of this price that I have not had the heart to cut with it yet. I may just buy another one and keep one for decoration and dedicate the other for cutting practice.

This is a sturdy katana, thicker than most blades used for tatami cutting. It is alo heavier and takes some practice to get used to, but when you are used to it, it slices through tatami mats like it is air! Very happy with it, so far no bend in it, while thinner blade katanas in use need work when hitting tatami the wrong way.

Delivery was a bit quicker than expected. Sword is fairly sharp. Solid brass pommel can be unscrewed. Mine came without any looseness or rattles. Beautiful blade. You can see very faint texture of the folding pattern when viewing blade from the side. Makes a nice "ping" when you flip the blade with your finger.

The sword is relatively well balanced, ever so slightly tip heavy but overall the Katana feels comfortable in my hand and the weight doesn't throw me off. I had some slight difficulty removing the mekugi closest the tsuba but other than that the Katana came apart cleanly for inspection and cleaning.

i just got this sword today the shipping was early by a day and the boxing was good and it came with a stand and belt. the craftsmanship of the blade was great and it feels like it could put some real damage out. its worth the money in my opinion. the tsuka was fit for either one or two hand wielding and the blade was almost razor sharp.

Beautiful. Sharp. Lethal. Functional. I have two other katanas and one ko-katana but if I want to cut something in half this is the go to sword. Displayed on my living room wall with the others and looks like a monster in comparison. The extra long tsuka with the leather wrapping is beautiful and feels good in the hands. Gives great leverage and adds that element of surprise with an extra long reach.

This is my first sword. It came in perfect condition. The handle and wrapping were tight. The blade was very nice with no defects. The sword has a good edge but needed some final sharpening to slice stuff up. I filled a plastic bottle with water and it busted/cut it some and knocked it into the bushes. I sharpened it a little and re-tried my test. It sliced through with so little resistance it was a little scary. This thing is ready to go now. I also waxed the scabbard and it really made it shine. If its as tough as the videos show...its a keeper. I also bought a bokken to practice with.....which was a good call because a mistake might cost me some stitches or worse. :D

These are great practice swords. I've been using them for full contact sparring for months now. The only thing I've noticed is the hand guards tend to loosen relatively easily during hard strikes. Not really an issue. After using traditional wooden bokken for years, I'm never going back. I don't know why they're so expensive all of a sudden.

The blade fits tightly in the scabbard, no rattle, the fittings appear to be a non-magnetic alloy (blackened brass, perhaps), but everything from the sword collar and hand guard down through the handle is solid, maybe a touch overbuilt as far as thickness, but the fullers, or grooves (which are also well carved/executed), help its balance and make it sing. The handle wrapping is done in the proper alternating pattern, something all to rare in budget katana-style swords; the scabbard also has an alloy end cap, reinforcing the 'yanone' or arrowhead theme of the sword's fittings. The polish is satin and plain, good for hiding scratches from fibrous cutting media, and the long tip is counterpolished. Overall, a good choice for someone's 'first' or 'only' katana, or as a user/spare/surrogate for a more expensive or cherished blade.

I grew up Hawaii a mostly Asian culture and I have wanted a great Katana for about 24 years. I have been to Japan, South Korea and China. I have looked at many shops and I have always found cheap swords that weren't worth the time or money. This sword on the other hand, is worth every dime. It is solid, well made, and I am proud to have this in my house. I'm not hating on any other brand, I have just found this sword to be worth the price. Not going to lie I expect this to be a complete s*** of a blade. Meaning like the cheap ones you get, were the blade rattles, you can remove everything with a single bolt, welded together on some little piece of metal, duller than a butter knife, rusty, easily bend, etc. This has been everything that but that, I was SHOCKED! Put together properly, not a single rattle sound, blade fit into the sheath, has a smooth unsheathing to it as well. Taking it apart was a little tough to how tightly the handle was fitted, which is good.The blade held up well against my friend's $1k Bungei sword, yes I compared a cheap Amazon sword to the glory of Bungei scream at me all you want.

At first it felt small in my hand. I bought one of these to give as a gift, and then bought another to keep for myself. I ended up keeping both to use for playful sparring with former girlfriend. I have no martial arts or swordfighting training, so I am not qualified to offer an opinion on their effectiveness as authentic training items, but I enjoy them quite a bit. Be careful with use, as I imagine a strike to an unprotected part of the body could really hurt.

The sword arrived significantly before the expected delivery date and was in perfect condition. Unpacked, the sword is contained in a decorative cloth bag with a gold cord with tassels. The wooden sheath is high gloss black with some decorative accents and very nice in appearance and quality. The Katana itself to me seems to be very well made with a sharp edge. Taking off the protective plastic sleeve and removing the factory oil protectant reveals a beautiful dark reddish/brown hue. I am extremely pleased with the Katana and sure my son will be thrilled. 100% satisfied.

Blade as far as I can tell is a good quality-more practical than fancy. The sheath fits well. not the best quality but it does the job. the hsndgusrd is pretty plain,and the only thing that bothered me is the pommel feels like plastic although it is quite well attached.

I'm pretty happy with this. it was surprisingly cheap. it doesn't suck. the stand it comes with isn't terrible either. bang for the buck on this one. though i haven't tried chopping anything in half with it yet.

I have many swords in my collection, right around 30 or so, with most coming from Amazon and ranging from $25 - $300 in purchase price. That collection includes everything from Whetstone to Shinwa, with both awful and awesome swords coming from Master Cutlery and United Cutlery names, with nearly all of them being katanas, ninjatos, nodachis, or zatoichis (plus a couple of FF7-style 'buster' swords). I got it from one of my friends as a gift, it's a very good quality sword, i can't believe it's only around $100. I bought similar one in Japanese town 2 years ago but that cost me $350!!! I am very pleased with this Musashi sword. It arrived quite sharp and with no issues such as warped blades. It included a cotton sword bag for storage and a certificate of authenticity. My sword had a slight rattle in the hilt. I was concerned that the hilt was loose, but, after removing the pegs, I was completely unable to budge the hilt. Turned out that the "rattle" was actually the Menuki, the little brass good luck charm that Samurai had placed under the wrappings. This is probably one of the best swords you can get in this price range.

Double Sweet!!!!!! Beautiful red and black blade highlights the folding laminations, solid construction. Hay bales yield smoothly. Details nice. I got it for the symbolism of the green and fish, and the red blade details -- Archangel St Raphael, the Source of Divine Healing (Green and fish) and Archangel St Euriel, the Source of Divine Wisdom (Red). Later, I might ask Ryan to have matching Wakizashi and Tanto made for me. I'll bet that the Archangel Raphael, the Source of Divine Healing, uses the sword to metaphorically cut out illness.

Excellent training value for your $$. I own several of these. They are basically unbreakable, unlike oak or kamagong wood bokken, of which I have broken many. These polypro bokken are not as rigid as wood, so be aware of that. Also you'll want to put tape on the grip area, the polypro gets slippery when you're training and your hands are sweaty.

beautiful sword. was NOT customized as per my request(they could have just said no, i still would have bought it), but whatever, i'll just buy more swords(probably not from this seller, tho). it is still a fine addition to my collection. on par with other swords in this price range, but barely. hamon appears to be real, as far as i can tell. beautiful, shiny finish, almost flawless. unique saya and tsuba. i got the sword in the pics and i am happy with it. it makes a LOUD chopping noise, which is very cool, but i think i would have preferred it without bo-hi, as i am more interested in devastating damage than sounding cool. i do not think this one will be getting much use in the bamboo grove.

Even though it was not manufactured in a traditional way, it is proof that modern manufacturing techniques can mass produce swords that any ancient samurai would have envied. My girlfriend bought this sword for me for Christmas but let me sneak a peak early. Katana is well built with a very strong blade. Very sturdy construction, the only thing I was disappointed in was the fact mine was not very sharp out of the box, and because of the finish on the blade I am concerned about sharpening it myself. I purchased this Katana to protect myself from zombies. You can imagine my disappointment when shipping was so slow that zombies had killed my whole family before it finally got to me. However, when it finally got here I was very impressed with the attention to detail. It is very sharp and light weight. The colors are beautiful. I have already used it to kill 7 zombies. One of which was the UPS man who had me sign for it. I didn't get a good look at him before I struck, but he appears to have turned back into a human after my fatal blow. I am currently hiding in a window well and spying on the zombies to learn their ways. When the time is right, I will strike. 5/5 would buy again!

Very well balanced. Good weight, good feel to it. It's durability will be tested I assure you but so far it's been a great practice weapon. Came sharp enough out of the box to cut through bamboo as said but definitely could be sharpened to a razor edge if you need it to be.

It's awesome! it was packaged with extra care and arrived in two slim boxes that I tested the sword on. It's super sharp, not razor sharp but sharp enough to do damage. I wouldn't say you could cut through a person but definitely fatally wound them which I don't plan on doing.

Not going to lie I expect this to be a complete s*** of a blade. Meaning like the cheap ones you get, were the blade rattles, you can remove everything with a single bolt, welded together on some little piece of metal, duller than a butter knife, rusty, easily bend, etc. This has been everything that but that, I was SHOCKED! Put together properly, not a single rattle sound, blade fit into the sheath, has a smooth unsheathing to it as well. Taking it apart was a little tough to how tightly the handle was fitted, which is good.The blade held up well against my friend's $1k Bungei sword, yes I compared a cheap Amazon sword to the glory of Bungei scream at me all you want.

The blade fits tightly in the scabbard, no rattle, the fittings appear to be a non-magnetic alloy (blackened brass, perhaps), but everything from the sword collar and hand guard down through the handle is solid, maybe a touch overbuilt as far as thickness, but the fullers, or grooves (which are also well carved/executed), help its balance and make it sing. The handle wrapping is done in the proper alternating pattern, something all to rare in budget katana-style swords; the scabbard also has an alloy end cap, reinforcing the 'yanone' or arrowhead theme of the sword's fittings. The polish is satin and plain, good for hiding scratches from fibrous cutting media, and the long tip is counterpolished. Overall, a good choice for someone's 'first' or 'only' katana, or as a user/spare/surrogate for a more expensive or cherished blade.

My first katana and I love it. Well balanced blade and the fact that they engrave for free is nice. I got the electroplated black instead of red. The way they ship it is fantastic. Completely wrapped up in Styrofoam to ensure safe overseas travel. I would definitely buy again. Detail on the katana is nice too. Hope this helps.

For anyone looking for an authentic cutting sword, this is a great choice. This is the more refined version of the Hanwei Practical Katana Sword. I did some research and this rated well in many sword enthsiast forums. It comes with a tag from Hanwei that provides a serial number to document that this is a Hanwei sword. The workmanship is so beautiful for a sword of this price that I have not had the heart to cut with it yet. I may just buy another one and keep one for decoration and dedicate the other for cutting practice.

Honestly I love it I just got it today, it's a beautiful sword nice and sturdy but there's a few minor problems (which is why I only give 4 stars) 1.) one of the clips for the belt is broken 2.) the blade is slanted to the right a bit. Other than those minor problems i love this sword a lot.

The blade on this thing is incredibly sharp. The overall quality is very good, although it seems a bit blade heavy and unbalanced. I imagine if I were looking for an authentic (and perfect) samurai sword I would be spending thousands of dollars. Regardless, this is a beautiful and well made katana for the price.

If you look at the question and answer section for this sword someone asked if you can cut a watermelon. Someone answered that the Damascus lines are just a decal that can be removed with chemicals. This is not true. You can see the continuation of the Damascus lines where the blade has been sharpened.

The katana is not as tight in the scabbard(top of the Wakizashi) as the Wakizashi is in the scabbard. This makes it easy to pull out the katana with out revealing the hidden Wakizashi.

I don't know a lot about swords, but I did a lot of research before buying it because it was a gift. Prompt delivery, gorgeous blade, very sharp. I couldn't find anything else as good as this for the price. You could definitely find better, but you'd be paying at least hundreds of dollars more. My boyfriend was ecstatic when I gave it to him! :)

Delivery was a bit quicker than expected. Sword is fairly sharp. Solid brass pommel can be unscrewed. Mine came without any looseness or rattles. Beautiful blade. You can see very faint texture of the folding pattern when viewing blade from the side. Makes a nice "ping" when you flip the blade with your finger.

First off when I got the blade, I cleaned it off and noticed some marks on the blade, not too bad. Maybe it was from the blade hitting in the inside of the scaberd.

I have a black belt in kenjutsu (Kuki Shinden-Ryu Happo Bikenjutsu) and this is one of my favorite swords. Even though it was not manufactured in a traditional way, it is proof that modern manufacturing techniques can mass produce swords that any ancient samurai would have envied. It handles well, and cuts well. It's razor sharp and nearly indestructible.

This katana was everything I hoped for and more, it arrived on time and in excellent condition. My only complaint is that it says china on the brass plate(I forget the name, the one between the tsuba and the habaki)but that can easily be replaced. I would definitely buy from this seller again. If you're looking for a handmade sword but can't afford a paul chen, then this should be the one you choose.

The scabbard is just so shiny and detailed. Pictures only do this beauty some justice . In person up close it looks like a high end model you would pay easily a 100$+ for. The blades itself isn't very pretty with its wire brushed hamon and all but it still looks the part. I would say this is one of the sweetest scabbards I have ever seen.

I was worried about the authenticity of the product as it is far cheaper than on the official musashi website and that in the pictures there is no "musashi" inscription on the gold colored metal piece above the guard. I got the free two day shipping and it promptly arrived. I was more than pleased when I took it out of the box. It was far more sturdy than i had expected and looked far better than in any picture. It did in fact come with a certificate of authenticity. I am very very satisfied with the purchase. criticisms - the piece that is supposed to have the musashi stamp does in fact have the stamp but doesn't fit, it wobbles around all the time. I'm unsure about the small oil colored lines that run throughout the blade, can't seem to wash them off but polishing may take care of that, however it may be just what the steel is supposed to look like (never owned this type of steel blade). It wasn't really that sharp at all, couldn't even cut into paper. Had to sharpen it myself and since i'm inexperienced I left some pretty gnarly scratches. It scratches extremely easily but i guess thats inevitable with something that is being used to cut things. If you want it for a display piece don't use it

I have many Katanas and this one is my absolute favorite of all in this price ranage; and note it is a great value and should cost far more. Everything is real and it is truly combat ready. Beautiful in its simplicity. Magnificient piece of work. I bought another. Great feel. Buy! I was apprehensive before purchasing a product from Cold Steel for the first time but they did not disappoint. This sword is solid, heavy, and EXTREMELY sharp. The blade is more than a quarter inch thick for virtually the entire length of the blade. The blade is monotempered steel, and is not Damascus (folded) steel as is traditional with this type of sword, but nonetheless this is a quality weapon for the consumer that is not able to purchase a more authentic katana.

The blade fits tightly in the scabbard, no rattle, the fittings appear to be a non-magnetic alloy (blackened brass, perhaps), but everything from the sword collar and hand guard down through the handle is solid, maybe a touch overbuilt as far as thickness, but the fullers, or grooves (which are also well carved/executed), help its balance and make it sing. The handle wrapping is done in the proper alternating pattern, something all to rare in budget katana-style swords; the scabbard also has an alloy end cap, reinforcing the 'yanone' or arrowhead theme of the sword's fittings. The polish is satin and plain, good for hiding scratches from fibrous cutting media, and the long tip is counterpolished. Overall, a good choice for someone's 'first' or 'only' katana, or as a user/spare/surrogate for a more expensive or cherished blade.

I have many swords in my collection, right around 30 or so, with most coming from Amazon and ranging from $25 - $300 in purchase price. That collection includes everything from Whetstone to Shinwa, with both awful and awesome swords coming from Master Cutlery and United Cutlery names, with nearly all of them being katanas, ninjatos, nodachis, or zatoichis (plus a couple of FF7-style 'buster' swords).
